Information you enter into the calculators

The figures you type into any calculator on this site — gross pay, hourly rate, filing status, allowances, dependents, retirement contributions, health premiums, base-period wages, garnishment figures — are processed entirely in JavaScript on your device. They are never transmitted over the network, because there is no server-side calculation to transmit them to. Closing or refreshing the page discards them.

This is a design decision rather than a promise about policy: the tools would not work differently if we wanted the data, because the arithmetic happens locally.

Information collected automatically

Like nearly every website, our hosting provider records standard server logs when a page is requested. These typically include the IP address, the browser user agent, the page requested, the referring page and a timestamp. They are used for security, for diagnosing errors and for understanding aggregate traffic, and they are retained for a limited period.

If analytics are in use on this site, they are configured to collect aggregate, non-identifying usage data — which pages are visited and how people navigate between them — and never the contents of any calculator field.

Cookies and local storage

This site does not set advertising or tracking cookies. Where a preference is remembered — a selected tax year, for instance — it is stored in your own browser and is readable only by this site. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings, and the calculators work normally without it.

Third-party services

Pages on this site link to external resources such as the Illinois Department of Revenue, IDES, the IRS and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Following those links takes you to sites governed by their own privacy policies, over which we have no control. We do not sell, rent or share information about visitors with third parties.

Children

This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your rights

Because we do not collect personal information through the calculators, there is generally nothing held about you to access, correct or delete. If you have emailed us, we hold that correspondence and will delete it on request. Depending on where you live, you may have specific rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the EU General Data Protection Regulation; write to us and we will comply with any valid request.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, and a content security policy restricts what may execute on the page. No system is perfectly secure, but because no personal financial data is transmitted or stored, the risk surface here is deliberately small.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new date at the top. Material changes will be described rather than quietly substituted.
