Illinois Tax and Paycheck Calculators
Fourteen free calculators covering pay, income tax, sales tax, vehicles, benefits and garnishment in Illinois. Every one runs entirely in your browser on current Illinois Department of Revenue and IRS figures, with the sources linked on each page.
Paycheck and pay calculators
Everything that turns gross pay into the number that reaches your bank account. They all share one calculation engine, so a figure from one agrees with a figure from another.
Illinois Paycheck Calculator
The main tool. Salary or hourly, every pay frequency, full Form W-4 and IL-W-4 inputs, pre-tax and after-tax deductions, tax years 2024 to 2026.
Hourly Paycheck Calculator
Regular hours, overtime at time and a half, double time and a second pay rate on the same paycheck.
Salary & Take-Home Calculator
Turns an annual salary into weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly and monthly net pay, with a filing-status comparison.
Chicago Paycheck Calculator
Chicago take-home pay, plus the city minimum wage, sales tax and paid leave rules that do differ from the rest of Illinois.
Bonus Tax Calculator
The flat 22% percentage method against the aggregate method, with the Social Security wage base and the $1 million threshold handled properly.
Withholding Calculator
A mid-year checkup: compare year-to-date withholding against what the year will require, and size the fix per paycheck.
Illinois tax calculators
For the return rather than the paycheck — what you owe Illinois for the year, what comes back, and the taxes that have nothing to do with wages.
Illinois Income Tax Calculator
Form IL-1040 in one screen: base income, subtractions, the exemption allowance, the flat 4.95% and every major credit.
Tax Refund Calculator
Compares your Illinois liability against what has been withheld and paid in, and shows the refund or the balance due.
Sales Tax Calculator
Combined rates for 56 Illinois cities, updated for the August 2026 transit increase, with a reverse calculation from a receipt total.
Vehicle Tax Calculator
Flat Form RUT-50 rates for a private sale, percentage rates for a dealer purchase after trade-in, plus title and registration fees.
Self-Employment Tax Calculator
1099 and Schedule C income: the 15.3% SE tax, federal income tax, Illinois tax and the quarterly estimated payment those imply.
Estimated Tax Payment Calculator
Whether you need to pay quarterly, which safe harbor protects you, and what each Form IL-1040-ES voucher should be.
Benefits and deductions
The two calculations that come up when something goes wrong — losing a job, or a creditor reaching your wages.
Unemployment Benefits Calculator
Your IDES weekly benefit amount from base-period wages, with the dependent allowances and the 2026 maximums of $628, $748 and $859.
Wage Garnishment Calculator
Both tests under 735 ILCS 5/12-803 — 15% of gross weekly wages, and disposable earnings above 45 times the minimum wage.
What a specific salary is worth in Illinois
Full breakdowns for the salaries people search for most, each with the federal, Illinois and FICA split, the monthly and bi-weekly figures, the hourly equivalent and a comparison against filing jointly.

How these are built
Every tool on this site draws on a single shared calculation engine rather than each having its own logic. That is a deliberate choice: it means the bonus calculator and the paycheck calculator cannot disagree about FICA, and it means a rate change is made in one place and flows everywhere at once.
Federal income tax withholding follows the percentage method for automated payroll systems in IRS Publication 15-T, Worksheet 1A, for Forms W-4 from 2020 or later — including the Step 2 checkbox rate schedules and the Step 3 dependent credits. Illinois withholding follows Booklet IL-700-T. FICA uses the Social Security Administration's published wage base. Where a figure comes from a survey rather than a statute — wage statistics, for instance — the reference period is stated rather than quietly rounded to "current".
The static tables inside our articles are generated from that same engine at build time rather than typed by hand, which removes the most common source of error on sites like this one.
There is no server-side calculation on this site, so there is nothing to transmit. No account, no email, no tracking of what you type. See the privacy policy for the detail.

Yes, all fourteen of them, with no sign-up, no email and no limit on how many times you use them. Every calculation runs in JavaScript in your own browser, so no salary figure, filing status or deduction is transmitted to a server, logged or stored anywhere. Close the tab and the data is gone.
Start from the question. "What will my next paycheck be?" is the paycheck calculator. "What do I owe Illinois for the year?" is the income tax calculator. "Am I getting a refund?" is the refund calculator. "Is my withholding on track?" is the withholding calculator. Paycheck tools model withholding; tax tools model the return, and the two are different numbers.
They run the same published methods payroll software runs: IRS Publication 15-T for federal withholding, Illinois Booklet IL-700-T for state withholding, and the Social Security Administration's wage base for FICA. Enter the same figures that appear on your Form W-4 and Form IL-W-4 and the result should land within a dollar or two of your pay stub. Differences usually trace to a benefit deduction you forgot, or an employer that rounds to whole dollars.
2026, 2025 and 2024 on every tool that has a tax-year selector. The 2025 figures deliberately use the withholding tables employers actually applied during 2025 rather than the later filing-season amounts, because the IRS did not reissue mid-year tables after the standard deduction changed. Sales tax and vehicle tax rates are current as of August 2026.
For income tax, no — because there is nothing to handle. Chicago has no city income tax and neither does any other Illinois municipality, so a Chicago paycheck is taxed identically to one anywhere else in the state. The Chicago page exists to say so clearly and to cover what genuinely is different: the local minimum wage, the 10.50% sales tax and the city's own paid leave ordinance.
On the schedule the agencies publish. The IRS releases brackets and the standard deduction in October or November and the Social Security Administration announces the new wage base at the same time. The Illinois Department of Revenue issues Booklet IL-700-T and the exemption bulletin in December, and IDES publishes unemployment rates then too. Everything is updated and re-tested in January, and mid-year changes — such as the August 2026 sales tax increase — are applied as they are announced.
All calculators produce estimates for planning purposes and are not tax, legal or financial advice. Verify any figure you intend to act on with the Illinois Department of Revenue, the IRS, or a qualified professional. See the full disclaimer.
