Estimates, not advice
Everything on paycheckcalculatorillinois.com is provided for general informational and educational purposes. The calculators produce estimates based on published federal and Illinois tax figures and on the assumptions you enter. Nothing here is tax advice, legal advice, accounting advice or financial advice, and no professional relationship is created by using this site.
What a calculator cannot know
Payroll is full of circumstances a general tool cannot see. Results may differ from your actual pay for reasons including, but not limited to:
- Employer-specific payroll conventions and rounding
- Mid-year changes in pay, filing status, benefits or residency
- Multi-state work, remote work across state lines and reciprocity elections
- Equity compensation, deferred compensation and imputed income
- Court-ordered deductions, tax levies and competing garnishment orders
- Local ordinances, union agreements and prevailing wage rules
- Prior-year balances, credits, and the interaction of household income on a joint return
- Changes in law or rates announced after our last review date
Accuracy and currency
We take accuracy seriously: figures are drawn from primary sources, sources are linked on each page, and calculations are generated from a single tested engine rather than typed by hand. Even so, tax rules change frequently and errors are possible. No warranty of accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose is given, express or implied. Before acting on any figure — filing a return, setting estimated payments, adjusting withholding, disputing a deduction — verify it against the Illinois Department of Revenue, the IRS, or a qualified professional.
Unemployment benefit estimates
Only the Illinois Department of Employment Security can determine your eligibility for unemployment insurance, your base period and your weekly benefit amount. Our estimate applies the published formula to the figures you enter; it is not a determination and it does not bind IDES in any way.
Wage garnishment estimates
The wage garnishment calculator applies the formula in 735 ILCS 5/12-803 to the figures you enter. It does not model federal tax levies, student loan administrative wage garnishment, competing or priority orders, or claimed exemptions, and it is not legal advice. If your wages are being garnished, consult a consumer attorney or a legal aid organization.
