About Paycheck Calculator Illinois

Free, accurate Illinois payroll calculators, built on the published tables that employers actually use — and kept current when the rates change.

What this site does

paycheckcalculatorillinois.com exists to answer one question well: what will actually reach my bank account? Illinois has a flat income tax and no local wage tax, which makes the state side of a paycheck unusually simple — and yet most people still cannot predict their net pay, because the federal side is anything but simple and because the two withholding forms work on entirely different systems.

Every tool here runs the same calculation an employer's payroll system runs. Federal withholding follows the percentage method for automated payroll systems in IRS Publication 15-T. Illinois withholding follows Booklet IL-700-T. FICA follows the Social Security Administration's published wage base. Nothing is approximated where a published method exists.

How we keep the numbers current

Payroll figures change on a predictable calendar, and the site is reviewed against each release:

  • October–November — the IRS publishes inflation-adjusted brackets and standard deductions for the following year, and the Social Security Administration announces the new wage base.
  • December — the Illinois Department of Revenue issues the new Booklet IL-700-T and the exemption allowance bulletin; IDES publishes the following year's unemployment insurance rates and wage base.
  • January — new rates take effect and every calculator is updated and re-tested.
  • Throughout the year — mid-year legislative changes, minimum wage ordinances and IDES benefit adjustments as they are announced.

Each page carries the date it was last reviewed, and every substantive figure links to the primary source it came from. Where a federal survey has not yet published a current-year figure, we say so and label the reference period rather than quietly using stale data.

How the calculations are tested

All of the tools share a single calculation engine rather than each having its own logic. That engine is tested against worked examples from IRS Publication 15-T, the Illinois withholding tables, and IDES benefit tables, so a figure produced by the bonus calculator agrees with the same figure produced by the paycheck calculator. Static tables in our articles are generated from that engine at build time rather than typed by hand, which removes the most common source of error on sites like this one.

Privacy by design

Every calculation runs in JavaScript in your own browser. No salary, filing status, deduction or benefit figure is transmitted to a server, logged or stored. There is no account to create and no email address to hand over. Close the tab and the data is gone. See the privacy policy for the full detail.

What this site is not

It is not a substitute for professional advice. A calculator can apply published rates to numbers you give it; it cannot know about your equity compensation, your multi-state work pattern, your court-ordered deductions or the specific facts of your tax situation. For anything consequential, speak to a CPA, an enrolled agent, or the Illinois Department of Revenue directly. The disclaimer sets this out properly.

Primary sources we rely on

Found an error?

Tax figures change and mistakes happen. If a number here does not match your pay stub or a published table, we want to know — get in touch with the page, the figure and what you believe it should be, and we will check it against the source and correct it.
